Overview
In this week's discussion board, you will review the article linked below, plus one additional journal article and summarize the key findings, limitations and application in a clinical setting. You are encouraged to reflect on your local context on how you conduct pulmonary measurements routinely to support a patient's pulmonary mechanics and lung function.
Instructions (Recommended order)
- (By Monday) Review the rubric for this assignment, the late assignment policy, netiquette guidelines, and the associated learning objectives.
- (By Tuesday) Read the following studies, paying particular attention to the findings and hypothesis: 1) Future Direction of Lung Function Testing in COPDLinks to an external site., 2) Advanced in Lung Function AssessmentLinks to an external site.
- (By Tuesday) Identify at least one additional applicable journal article.
- (By Wednesday, 23:59 EST of week 1) Post your initial response which should include the following:
- A summary of the findings and hypothesis of the two articles.
- Identification of at least one additional applicable journal article, including an identification of limitations, if applicable.
- Describe how COPD exacerbation influences the mechanics to ventilate.
- Describe the conditions that remodel the lung for COPD patient's functional volumes and capacities.
- A mention of your own practice to assess lung mechanics and function in your local context
- A mention of concepts that challenged you within the reading material.
- (by 23:59 EST Sunday of Week 1) Reply to the initial posts of two classmates with each response being at least 100 words.
Learning Objectives:
- Learners will describe the forces related to the mechanics of ventilation. (CO2,3,4)
- Learners will differentiate the volumes and capacities of the lung. (CO1,2,3,4)
