Everyday there is new literature and research being published and all too commonly we will hear "I read a study that says..." or even reading news articles "Studies show xyz.....". While all research can contribute to learning it is important that health care providers are able to sort through various types of research and decide if the results are potentially accurate or even apply to any given situation. Learning to assess the strengths and weaknesses of literature is key skill needed to develop protocols and clinical practice guidelines. New literature is published daily and it is important to review the evidence to ensure our patient's are receiving the best care possible. For this assignment consider one outcome related to your PPOP and research literature related to that outcome. For example: In the COPD population, does the use of COPD action plans to improve medication adherence compared to no COPD action plan. This assignment will help build upon your care plan development project for your PPOP. The evidence discovered here will be then used to decide what therapies may be useful in the treatment of your PPOP in an alternative setting.
Instructions:
- Evaluate the two new peer reviewed articles regarding a therapy for your PPOP using the GRADE process as described by the Cochrane Guidebook.
- Using the Excel Spreadsheet Template fill in the table for each article and answer the follow up questions.
- If the evidence needs to be upgraded or downgraded be sure to include an explanation why you made that decision.
