Overview:
In this week's assignment, you will review the included case study and describe a pulmonary rehabilitation plan the patient would benefit from. Provide an overview of the technologies and equipment that will be prescribed to the patient. Be sure to include an explanation and rationale for selected activities and what additional support will be provided to the patient.
Your Patient:
Mr. John Hammond is a 66-year-old man with a long history of smoking and a high stress work environment. As an entrepreneur, he traveled often and worked with wildlife. He was recently hospitalized for pneumonia and was placed on the ventilator for 2 weeks after developing sepsis following a trip on a remote South American island. During his recovery, he was given Nicotine patches and newly diagnosed with GOLD Stage II COPD. His PFT showed a reduced FEV1/FVC of 63% and a FEV1 of 67%. His physician recommended that he participate in a pulmonary rehabilitation program. His current physical condition shows muscle wasting and weight loss. After an ankle injury, he has had a hard time being physically active which he believes led to the pneumonia. Mr. Hammond has been expressing anger at his failure to remain healthy and has been secluding himself from his family members.
Mr. Hammond will be attending your Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Dr. Chriton has asked you to recommend some activities for the patient to participate in. Dr. Chriton is not familiar with your facility and would like you to suggest technologies and or equipment’s to be used. He also asked that you describe the goals and educational milestones you hope to achieve and a general outline of the program.
