or this assignment, you have been invited back to write an article for Excelsior’s fictional journal, Complex World. Your topic is a critical examination of a technological advance that is related to health behavior change or health education and the identification of some of the underlying components of behavioral theory that may be related to it. Again, assume that your audience is fellow public health and healthcare professionals and write your article for this audience.
Please incorporate the following elements into your assignment submission:
- Identify a technological innovation that is related to health education or health behavior change. The innovation could be a mobile application, social media platform, health care informatics, or some other health-specific technology. Some examples include MapMyFitness,Links to an external site. PatientsLikeMe,Links to an external site. or Calm.Links to an external site.
- Describe the basic design and function of the innovation.
- Who developed it?
- What is its purpose/mission?
- Who is the target audience?
- How is it used?
- What kind of information does it offer?
- Based on the innovation’s purpose and function, what behavioral theory(ies) that we have discussed do you think are relevant to this innovation? Identify the theory or theories, specific constructs within the theory, and how you believe they are related to the logic behind the innovation’s form and function. (For example, if there is a risk calculator as a component, you may say that perceived susceptibility from the health belief model is applicable.)
- Write a thoughtful assessment of the innovation’s advantages and disadvantages. In what ways can it be effective? In what ways do you think it could be improved?
- Is this innovation accessible by everyone? Are there populations that might not be able to make full use of this innovation? Why or why not?
- Overall, would you recommend this as a resource to others? Why or why not? Your submission should be 2 pages, double-spaced, and all sources should be cited according to the American Psychological Association (APA) most current edition format.
- Find 1-2 relevant photos and/or charts, diagrams, or tables to add visual appeal to the article. (These must be properly cited and free to use with attribution.)
- Use the Complex World Submission Template to submit your work.
This assignment is due before the end of Module 8.
Formatting Considerations:
- Your Opinion Editorial should be 1 to 2½ pages in length.
- Your Opinion Editorial should be submitted using the Complex World Submission Template.
- You have the ability to move images and headings within the template.
- Be sure to include subheadings to break up your text and walk the readers through the sections of the Opinion Editorial.
- Lead and inline images are strongly suggested.
Note that images convey emotion, much like the cover of the journal does. They also help to break up the text. Unsplash, or Pixabay are great sources for free images.
