RSH 350 Introduction to Evidence Based Practice

Overview

For this activity, you will conduct an evidence search for a focused clinical question from the PPAARE/PICO assignment. You will then share your clinical question and your resulting evidence search with your peers. You will be able to compare results with others and learn from their search strategies.

  1. Select ONE of the clinical questions that you wrote for PPAARE/PICO Assignment in this lesson.
  2. Conduct an evidence search, using the PMI Online Library, for the clinical question you selected. Record details of your search strategy, including search terms, databases and search engines used, and any changes or adjustments you made as you searched (e.g., limiters used, etc.). You may do this through note-taking, constructing tables, or taking screenshots of your searches.
  3. In your first discussion post:
    1. Post the Scenario number (1, 2, or 3) used and your clinical question.
    2. Describe your evidence search strategy. You may attach a separate file that records your search strategy.
    3. Post links to the full text sources (or attach full text PDF files) to the top three evidence sources you found in your search.
    4. State which source you feel represents the best available evidence.
  4. Review all classmates’ posts who selected the same scenario that you used for this activity. Respond to one of these posts, providing constructive critique and/or sharing strategies or suggestions for improving their searches or results.
  5. In a separate post, place a vote for the classmate who provided the best available evidence source.

Submission Instructions:

  • Review the discussion rubric linked below.
  • Submit your initial post.
  • Respond to at least two of your classmates' initial posts.
  • Monitor the discussion periodically and respond to questions asked by your classmates or instructor.
  • Your responses should add to the conversation by sharing perspectives, ideas, prior knowledge, or supporting information (with references).
