Tables, figure presentation & work formating in APA 7 STYLE

Overview

A. TEMPLATE FOR TABLES AND Fifgure

Class Checklist for APA 7

Data Representation

1. Assign a Clear Figure or Table Number

Every visual element must be labeled sequentially in the order it appears in the paper (e.g., Table 1, Table 2, Figure 1, Figure 2). The label should appear bolded and above the

table or infographic.

2. Provide a Concise Title

Directly below the table or figure number, include a brief, descriptive title in italics and title case. The title should clearly describe the content without being overly long.

3. Refer to the Table or Figure in the Text

Each table or infographic must be mentioned in the body of the paper before it appears. Example: “Descriptive statistics are presented in Table 2.”

4. Place the Table or Figure Close to Its First Mention

APA 7 allows visuals to appear within the text immediately after they are referenced, rather than only at the end of the document.

5. Maintain Clean and Minimal Formatting

Use simple grid structures with minimal lines. Typically, APA tables include:

  • Top horizontal line
  • Line separating column headings from data
  • Bottom horizontal line
  • Avoid vertical lines and unnecessary shading.

    6. Use Consistent Font and Size

Tables and infographic text should use the same font family as the paper (e.g., Times New Roman 12, Calibri 11, Arial 11, or Georgia 11). Maintain readability and consistency.

    7. Label All Columns and Rows Clearly

Column and row headings should clearly explain what each variable or category represents. Units of measurement (e.g., %, years, USD) should be included when relevant.

    8. Include Notes When Necessary

If clarification is required, add notes below the table or figure. APA uses three types:

  • General notes (begin with Note.)
  • Specific notes (identified with superscript letters)
  • Probability notes (e.g., p < .05)
  • 9. Cite the Source of Adapted or Reproduced Visuals

If the table or infographic is adapted from another source, include a source citation in the note below the visual and include the full reference in the reference list.

If it is your original;, then list your name as author
