HLTH 252 Case Study: Poisoned: America’s Fentanyl Crisis

Overview

Please see attachments and pay close attention to the grading rubric to ensure a passing grade.

OVERVIEW A case study is a research approach that is used to generate an in-depth, multi-faceted understanding of a complex issue in its real-life context. The general purpose of case study research is to describe an individual situation (case), identify the key issues of the case (your assignment question should tell you what to focus on), analyze the case using relevant theoretical concepts from a health perspective, and recommend a course of action for that particular case. You will complete three Case Studies throughout the duration of this course. For each case study, you will be asked to answer specific questions based on the content of the current, drug-related issue video/article/scenario provided. The purpose of these reports is to give you a chance to work out your own view about the issues raised by each case and to practice the procedure for analyzing dilemmas related to drug use. Each Case Study paper must be completed based on the following criteria: • Structured in paragraph form (headings should not be used). • At least 1 full page double-spaced, 1-inch margins, 12-point Times New Roman font. • At least 2 credible scholarly sources (e.g. journal articles, government agency reports, etc.). The course textbook may not be used as a source. • Cite your sources in APA format. All sources cited must have been published within the last five years. Put a title on the top line of the first page. No other identifying information is needed. Please put the work of others (e.g. material from journal articles, government agency reports, etc.) into your own words by summarizing or paraphrasing. No direct quoting in your work for the class except for the Bible. Case Study: Poisoned: America’s Fentanyl Crisis Overview This week’s case study centers on the ABC News documentary series Poisoned: America’s Fentanyl Crisis. The show explores the devastating impact of fentanyl on individuals, families, and communities across the US. Your task is to critically engage with the documentary and connect its themes to our course material. Watch the documentary taking notes on key themes, personal stories, and collective issues highlighted in the series. Your case study should address the following: • Personal Reaction: What moments or stories stood out to you the most, and why? • Overarching Discoveries and Themes: What does the series reveal about the role of institutions (e.g., government, healthcare, law enforcement) in the fentanyl crisis? Make specific reference to at least one of the individuals from the documentary. • Call to Action: What do you think should be done—at the local, national, or global level—to address the fentanyl crisis?
