Ethical dilemma

Overview

There are many ethical dilemmas that impact the medical community. One such dilemma that I have personally seen have a great impact is the informed consent. Informed consent is very important because it gives us the go ahead to provide the much needed medical care a patient might need. I personally have a story to share that I went through as a Nurse. I specialize in hemo-dialysis, and I had to take it upon myself to make reach out to APS in regard to a abandoned patient. This specific patient needed to be dialyzed immediately but could not consent for himself. I had to reach out to APS and tell them the Patients situation. They gave me the right to dialyze the patient as required. My point is what would have happened to the Patient if no one was immediately available to give such authority? In this case the key stake holders were the patient, and the nurse. Both the nurse and the patient would have had certain consequences if the proper authority had not been given. In my opinion, consents for such procedures for nonverbal patients, with no responsible party, should be in place prior certain procedures. It not only saves time, but in reality saves a patients life, and a nurses license.
