Overview
a. State the name of the organization and share their mission, vision, and values (note: the organization you choose must have all three elements). Describe the mission, vision, and values of the organization. To what extent are the behaviors of leaders in the organization congruent with the mission, vision, and values?
Cleveland Clinic:
Mission: Caring for life, researching for health, and educating those who serve.
Vision: To be the best place for care anywhere and the best place to work in healthcare.
Core Values: Serve with heart, Succeed as one team, Shape the future.
The leaders, from what I have observed, are very congruent with the mission, vision, and core values of the organization. They succeed at creating an environment that implements and sustains world class care for their patients. The strive and accomplish high-quality research in which they utilize in treating their patients, as well as provide an example for surrounding organizations, medical and otherwise.
b. To what extent are the mission, vision, and values congruent with nursing core values?
The mission, vision, and values align with nursing core values in several ways. Like nursing, the Cleveland Clinic values incorporating the newest possible research into patient care; much like nursing values using the newest evidence-based practice in their everyday practice. Like Nursing, the Cleveland Clinic believes and promotes continuing education amongst their providers. Lastly, the Cleveland Clinic and nursing core values align in the way of shaping the future. Nursing has always set and built upon the foundation of preparing and guiding future nurses in healthcare, just like the Cleveland Clinic commits to shaping and the future of their patients, staff and community.
c. How were the mission, vision, and values similar to and different from your personal philosophy of nursing?
Cleveland Clinic mission, vision, and values are very similar to my personal philosophy in that I value serving with heart, because my patients deserved that when they are going through a trying time in their lives. I also believe in providing the best care possible with the newest and most relevant research. The Cleveland Clinic philosophy and my personal philosophy also align in using teamwork to provide the best care. Without a good team, the best nurse, doctor, respiratory therapist, etc., is nothing.
