Within this course, you will create a fictional patient case study, to be turned in as the capstone for this course.
INSTRUCTIONS
Your choices include:
- a neonate in the NICU, born with a heart or lung disorder, resulting in intubation.
- a pediatric patient in the PICU, presenting with an exacerbation or trauma coming in through the Emergency Department.
A full background and history must be provided, as you would see in any chart, focusing on true- to-life blood gas values and ventilator settings.
Your patient will eventually be discharged home with a tracheostomy, and you will document your discharge planning and caregiver education. By the end of this course, you will have created a comprehensive discharge plan to present to your colleagues for feedback and collaboration.
You will provide weekly updates as outlined below:
Module 1: Capstone Overview
Module 2: Create your fictional patient, as outlined above. Be sure to include patient history, background, and any pertinent data in chart form.
Module 3: Provide an update in your patient’s situation, ventilator modalities, settings, and any protocols used. Provide blood gas values and any changes made.
Module 4: Update on all medications given, any changes and any weaning attempts. Your patient now has a trach.
Module 5: Begin your discharge plan and provide caregiver education.
Module 6: Complete your full comprehensive discharge plan, and upload it for your classmate’s review.
Module 7: Review, debrief and comment with any suggestions on submitted patient cases.
