Overview
Purpose: In Case Study #1, students will explore real-world data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) related to Norovirus, a common gastrointestinal infection. This assignment is designed to help students gain proficiency in using data analysis techniques to understand the background, transmission modes, trends, and impact of Norovirus. Students will create a data dashboard to present their findings. By the end of this case study, students will have a solid foundation of Norovirus to perform a mock outbreak investigation in Case Study #2.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completing this assignment, students will be able to:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of basic epidemiological concepts, including person, place, and time, and their application in analyzing infectious disease outbreaks.
- Apply data analysis techniques to real-world data provided by the CDC, fostering practical skills in handling and interpreting epidemiological data.
- Develop the ability to create effective data visualizations using Excel, including charts and graphs, to communicate epidemiological findings in a clear and compelling manner.
- Gain insights into the primary modes of transmission for Norovirus and distinguish between communicable and non-communicable diseases in the context of Norovirus.
- Develop proficiency in creating a data dashboard using Excel, incorporating quick stats, visualizations, and interpretations to effectively convey epidemiological insights.
