HeLa Cells were obtained from a patient named Henrietta Lacks. Read the attached documents for information on her story and then address the questions below. The Rubric is also attached in case you have questions about how it will be graded.
- What good has come out of the research done with HeLa cells so far?
- What things were not fair or are questionable about how the cells were obtained?
- Given that your cells could be harvested for research without your consent, would you sign the informed consent document without question? Why or why not?
- Do you think that harvesting cells or tissues from patients for research without informing them is ethical? Why or why not?
