INSTRUCTIONS
Your choices include:
- a neonate in the NICU, born with a heart or lung disorder, resulting in intubation.
- a pediatric patient in the PICU, presenting with an exacerbation or trauma coming in through the Emergency Department.
A full background and history must be provided, as you would see in any chart, focusing on true- to-life blood gas values and ventilator settings.
Your patient will eventually be discharged home with a tracheostomy, and you will document your discharge planning and caregiver education. By the end of this course, you will have created a comprehensive discharge plan to present to your colleagues for feedback and collaboration.
Step-by-Step Assignment Instructions (Meets Expectations)
- Create a fictional intubated neonatal or pediatric patient case study and provide all documentation as you treat your patient.
- Provide a full background and history.
- Provide ventilator and life support documentation, showing evidence of use of the most current guidelines.
- Provide documentation of all of the blood gas values and ventilator changes.
- Create and provide a comprehensive discharge plan.
- Document caregiver education.
- Provide references.
