Discussion - Legal and Ethical Perspectives of the Respiratory Care Profession
In this week's final discussion board, I want you to reflect upon the legal and/or ethical dilemmas discussed in this course to examine how they apply to your profession through the lens of licensure. We discussed topics like distributive Justice (pandemic), end-of-life care, negligence & malpractice, some tort law, privacy, evidence-based medicine (professional standards), and access to healthcare. In this week's discussion board, I want you to reflect on at least one of the cases listed on the NCRCB website of disciplinary actionsLinks to an external site. and apply concepts discussed during this semester.

- Connect the legal or ethical concept addressed in the disciplinary action and course.
- Why is the concept important for respiratory therapists understand?
- What additional context do you want to share about the case or similar circumstance?
- Describe how this case and its ethical and/or legal topic resonate with you.
- NOTE: Please refrain from demonizing the individual, institution, or others within the case; just speak to the legal and ethical dilemmas as it relates to your understanding of the case.
