Overview
This exercise helps you understand the interrelationship of a health service organization's (HSO's) generation of gross (as services are delivered to users, traditionally patients) and net revenues expected to be reimbursed by payers.
First, research the services delivered at your local HSO. Then, find the gross and net revenues at your local HSO. Complete a table to present the information you found, and write a 3–5-page paper to explain the findings.
The table should explain the following:
- A listing of the services provided
- For each service, describe whether it is an inpatient-only or outpatient-only service.
- Provide ideas on the predominant area (inpatient or outpatient) that the service would affect.
- Based on the above, indicate the gross and net revenue effects that are likely in delivering this service.
Your table should be organized similar to the model below:
Service | IP or OP | Predominant Area | Gross Revenue Effect | Net Revenue Effect |
Then, provide an explanation of how the gross and net revenue relationships will change under the continued implementation of value-based purchasing (VBP) payments. Provide specific support as reasoning for what has been indicated in the table to address each prompt above.
