Patient Teaching Pamphlet

This assignment has two steps: 1) create a teaching resource for patients, and 2) present your resource to the class as you would present education to a patient.

Step 1: Create a Teaching Resource for Patients

Please select a hematologic, or cardiovascular disorder from this week’s content and develop a patient teaching resource (such as, a pamphlet, brochure, video, etc.) to use in your clinical setting.

Review the resources provided in week 4 to develop an effective patient resource.

Your resource must be your own, original work. You may not copy and paste information from other teaching materials to use in this assignment. In addition to making the resource patient-friendly (typically written at the 3rd-grade level), please add scholarly resources (as citations and references) to substantiate what you include in your patient teaching.

Your resource must include APA-style references and in-text citations. I recommend you use Microsoft Word to develop your resource, however, you may choose to use a different program.

Please convert the resource to a PDF document prior to uploading it in VoiceThread.

Step 2: Present Your Resource

Create a presentation using VoiceThread where you present your patient teaching tool to your classmates as you would present the education to a patient. You should record your presentation using a video comment.

Follow these steps to record your presentation in VoiceThread:

1. Click the "Week 4 Patient Teaching Tool Presentation" link to begin recording your presentation.
2. Click "Launch" to open VoiceThread in a new browser tab.
3. Click the "Start Assignment" button to begin.
4. Add your PDF file of your teaching resource by uploading the file from your computer.
5. Edit the Presentation name to be descriptive of your teaching tool topic.
6. Add a video comment to record your presentation. Remember to speak as if you are educating a patient.
7. Click the "Submit" button to submit your VT to the "Student Gallery." This will close VoiceThread.
8. I encourage you to review your peers' presentations and make comments. Go back into the assignment to click on the "Student Gallery" link to view the presentations of your peers.
