a. One source of big data that I am likely to use in my role as an APRN is an EHR. EHRs are digital versions of a patient's medical history designed to share information securely with different medical groups.
b. Types of information that can be obtained from EHRs include medical data, vital signs, test results, and treatment plans,
c. Three ways data from EHRs can be used to impact client care to improve clinical decision-making, improve care coordination, and to support population health management and quality improvement. EHRs provide healthcare providers with immediate access to a patient's medical history , medications , allergies, laboratory & diagnostic tests. This information will enable the APRN to make evidence-based decisions, reduce medical errors, and help the provider to create and implement treatment plans. EHRs allow healthcare professionals from different specialties and care settings to securely share patient information. Improved communication reduces duplicate testing , ensures continuity of care , and improved patient outcomes. Lastly, EHR data can be analyzed to identify trends in disease prevalence and monitor health outcomes.
d. The APRN 's role in data stewardship is to ensure that healthcare data are collected, managed, protected, and used responsibly to improve patient care, support clinical decision-making, and advance healthcare quality. They make sure that the information is entered correctly and that HIPAA is enforced.
