Research Report

Overview

Hi, so i have a research report that i need to write. i have the initial proposal that i submitted but there's some changes and i have to write more in detail and provide what i did over the summer. these are the sections we need to write:

Introduction and Background, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion (Include limitations, research adjustments, future directions, and lessons learned) , References ((Use the standard format in your field or that of a recognized medical journal such as NEJM).

So, my project over the summer was a comparison of native left-sided infective endocarditis (LSIE) and native right-sided infective endocarditis (RSIE), stratified by drug use-associated infective endocarditis (DUA-IE) status.

I collected the data with the variables of age, sex, date of presentation, and IV drug use.

So far, im still working on the data, so in my report, i will talk about expected results. i will be comparing left-sided vs right-sided IE. The incidence over time. And drug-use associated IE in left vs right and the trends in that. Then lastly, i will be exploring differences in mortality rates between LSIE and RSIE and DUA-IE vs non-DUA IE.

So my main thing is that infective endocarditis is increasing worldwide, largely driven by drug-use associated disease. Although both left- and right-sided infective endocarditis are encountered clinically, they differ in their epidemiology, patient characteristics, and outcomes. Understanding how these patterns have changed over time may improve management and inform future care. Therefore, this study aims to characterize temporal trends in native LSIE and RSIE, compare DUA-IE and non-DUA-IE, and examine long-term mortality.

I'll give you the initial research proposal (which has changed a little based on what i actually did this summer). I'll also give some examples we got on how to write the report. Since i dont have the results from my data collection yet, my results should just talk about expected findings (based on other research papers and what we can expect to see).
