Overview
The assignment's purpose is to create a literature review focusing on your health administration research topic. You will demonstrate your ability to research your study topic and fine-tune your research question. A literature review is a research summary on a previously studied topic. It is designed to compare, contrast, and show strengths and weaknesses of research topics.
- Go to Howard University’s online library (or a comparable online library) to search for and locate journals that include your topic
- Look for full-text articles within the last five years
- Select at least 10 journal articles and save them for your project
- Read the articles and sort them according to theme, findings and/or population
- Write the literature review
- Introduction: Define the topic and provide background data and information
- Body: Share how you searched for the articles. What sites did you use for literature review? How many articles were returned? How did you select the 10 articles from the available articles.
- Review the articles according to the theme, findings, and population
- Share strengths and weaknesses and compare the similarities and differences of the articles.
- Who was the population? What geographical area? What were the limitations of the studies?
- Summary: Summarize the main findings of your literature review
- References: All references must be in APA format
- A broad topic such as "access to care or affordability" is not yet a research question. A stronger question identifies the population, variables, and relationship being examined, such as:Among adults living in a defined community, what is the relationship between insurance status and nonemergent emergency department utilization? This question identifies:
- Population: adults in the selected community
- Independent variable: insurance status
- Dependent variable: nonemergent emergency department utilization
