Overview
This short paper assignment is an opportunity to show what you have learned in your module reading about the significance of compliance, coding, and reimbursement.
Use the scenario below to complete this assignment.
The chief financial officer (CFO) has expressed concern over the hospital’s declining case mix index (CMI). A higher CMI indicates a hospital is treating more complex and resource-intensive patients, which, when accurately documented, leads to appropriate and increased reimbursement. As the new clinical documentation improvement (CDI) lead at a midsized hospital, your strategic plan to optimize the hospital’s CMI will focus on enhancing documentation accuracy, improving interdepartmental collaboration, and providing targeted education.
