Overview
it’s a specific play that PRE-DATES 1700 Performance Analysis Paper: Students will write a 3-4 page response to a full performance of a classical text NOT read in the class (Sophocles, Shakespeare, Moliere, Jonson – any playwright that pre-dates 1700). The response will look at the performance challenges in the period text and evaluate how the production team (director, actor, designers) tackled those challenges. What are the benefits to re-imagining the production? How does the play speak to a modern audience? How does it fail to? Students will be graded on: a) the clarity of their critical perspective of the text (30%); b) their understanding of directorial and design goals (30%); c) their understanding and communication of both in the performance (40%).
