SAMPLE RESPONSE PAPER

Gladys Preciado

Week 1: Art of West Asia Reading Response

  1. Identify at least one article that you found challenging and describe why.
      • Here is one example response to the first question: One article I found challenging was “Babylonia, an introduction” by the British museum. It was
challenging because of what had happened with the city. It seems like cities become something very important and then the next irrelevant thing. But, nevertheless it has become some amazing history that many can look back on and really appreciate. Their art, the writing and much more what came to be
      • Here is a second example response to the first question: Babylonia, an introduction
The reason why I decided to choose this article is because of the difficulty of formatting of the
article. I need more information based upon the Babylonians. I want to know what they did as a
society and what they did for rituals.

2. List at least 3-5 questions you have about the overall material you just read. Think about what resources you would need to find answers to these questions.

1. Why was Babylonia uneasy with their northern neighbor, Assyria? 2. What did Nebuchadnezzar II rebuild that made it become the largest ancient settlement in Mesopotamia? 3. Why has the 2000 year old myth of Babylon haunts the European imagination. ?

3. Thinking about the readings and/or videos for the week altogether, identify and connect 3-5 common themes.

1. The beginnings of new empires 2. The beginning of countries forming enemies and conquering them for more land 3. The beginning and the falls of empires that last for countless of years
