HIST110 week 4 and 5

Overview

1. Jackson's intentions to remove Indians from the Southeast to the Indian Territory were not all malicious. What were some of his more positive rationalizations for their removal? Did some of the Indians see the benefit and agree to removal?

2. With the value and importance of slaves increasing, what impact did the "peculiar institution" have on Southern culture?

3. There have been many people who have helped shaped America under the Articles of Confederation, the Constitution of the United States as well as those who were fighting during the Revolution and the Civil War. I want you to choose a person from the Civil War era. It can be a woman, a slave, a freed slave, a soldier, or a politician. The person you choose can be Confederate or Union. You are to become that person. I want you to talk about the Civil War from their perspective. You can talk about any aspect of the Civil War, but you must look at it from your character's perspective. In other words, you are no longer living in the 21st century, but have been transported back to the 1860s. Below are some historical figures from the Civil War you may choose. You may also choose a figure not listed from this time period.
