Good luck!

1. Chapter 13 states:

"Everywhere, this [economic] integration and the consumer opportunities it made possible came at a heavy price. Nowhere was it more costly than in the Americas…The cost was also very high for millions of Africans…” (WTWA II).

Consider the ways in which European contact and the establishment of economic  networks impacted on the peoples of the Atlantic.  In your estimation, what do you think was the single-most important by-product (good or bad) of the new connections between Europe, Africa and the Americas?  Defend your answer.

2. Consider the societies and states of Asia in the fifteenth through early eighteenth centuries. How did the Ottoman Sultanate, the Mughal Empire, the Ming and Qing Dynasties and some of the smaller states in Asia develop their own methods of connectivity to the larger world?  Do you think in general they engaged constructively with foreign peoples and states or attempted to manage and limit that contact?
