Historical Fiction

Overview

Watch the instructional video below before you begin this assignment!

Historical Fiction – Historical fiction is defined as movies and novels in which a story is made up but is set in the past and borrows true characteristics of the time period in which it is set[1]. In other words, it is fiction (make believe) that is set, uses, compares, or takes place in history.

Some well-known examples of historical fiction include: Gone With the Wind, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Three Musketeers, and Titanic.

By the assignment due-date you will write your own short piece of historical fiction (fully cited in MLA, APA, or Chicago style). You are creating your own story. Please do not misunderstand the assignment. Every now and then a student writes about a piece of historical fiction or such. That is incorrect. You are creating your own masterpiece.

The minimum requirements for the essay include:

5+ full pages, double-spaced 11 or 12pt font

Full citation of sources (a Works Cited is not good enough)

Proof-read and largely free of grammatical errors

Please watch the short video I post before attempting the assignment. I tend to get quite a few questions regarding the Historical Fiction. Hopefully, the video will clear up some misunderstandings. Cite your factual information with in-text citations. Do not just give a Works Cited at the end. See the examples and the video I posted if you need help on this.
