Historical Debate: How Democratic was Ancient Greece
Be sure to read the Osborne article on democracy and Greece. And the piece on Sparta. In a 300 word response, argue whether or not we can consider Ancient Greece a democracy.
Be sure to use evidence from the textbook, videos, or article. Also consider the following:
1) Can we judge an ancient democracy by modern standards?
2) How was it in comparison to other societies systems of rule.
3) Is all of Ancient Greece the same or is it divided into different regions like Athens and Sparta with different systems of rule.
4) How were women or outsiders treated and is this representative of a democracy?
