Overview:
The lecture looked at White Nationalism in the USA with the KKK and the following film is based loosely on real events of a Black police detective who infiltrated the KKK in 1972. Comedy, from the earliest depictions in Athens of Ancient Greece to Netflix's standup comedy specials, has and continues to be a lens to challenge and present truth to those in power. Think of all those comedians during the trump Administration who challenged his nativist and racist rhetoric or when we innocently tell a friend, "Hey, that shirt makes you look fat, just kidding" We end with just kidding to soften the truth.
Farce is a type of comedy which uses exaggeration, buffoonery, and ludicrously improbable situations to evoke laughter or to amuse its audience. Great comedy also contains an element of truth. Name a scene in BlacKkKlansman that is farcical but also contains a kernel of truth. Describe the scene the truth that it refers to. How does Spike Lee use comedy to challenge the KKK and White Nationalism.
How are both KKK and Black Power organizations depicted in the film? Keep in mind that The Black Power organizations, like The Black Panthers, were created to protect the Black community from White Nationalists.
