History Question

Overview

Please use these question links that you did for me as reference in writing this paper:

1. Annotated Bibliography: Related post

2. Final Project Topic: Related post

- This is the comment the teacher wrote about the "Final Project Topic" I turned in, in which you must take into account for fixing up the paper: "Overall a good subject. Please make sure that the sources you use do have an orientalist bias, as some of them are much less so than others, such as the Russell brothers."

- This is what I ended up turning in as my proposal for the final project topic, in which you may change and make edits to if you think its necessary to make the paper good: For my final project, I intend to examine the way descriptions of Ottoman society by European travelers both display fascination and orientalist bias. My preliminary thesis is that, whereas the travelers’ accounts introduce their audience to vivid details of Ottoman city life, they also distort realities, presenting the empire in a Eurocentric lens of backwardness and exoticism. I will argue that although these historical texts are vital historical records, they also misrepresent culture. Specifically, I intend to play a pivotal role in analyzing how authors such as Charles MacFarlane and many others used governance, hygiene, and social tradition to compare Ottoman behavior with European standards. At the same time, I will display the way Ottoman perspectives and institutions resisted these outsider views. My analysis will focus on how modernity, cosmopolitanism, and orientalist preconceptions in the nineteenth century connected. To support my argument, I plan to contrast my primary text with scholarship that contests orientalist fictions and stresses intrinsic Ottoman dynamics. In this way, I will introduce my audience to the way careful reading of primary texts can uncover both historical realities and the biases that shape them.

*************DO NOT USE any type of AI, ChatGpt, etc. NOTHING! This must be 100% in your own words. Make sure that it is 0% detectable on ALL AI detectors because the teacher will check and so will I. The teacher knows all these works like the back of her hand, so she will know if you are making something up or leaving something out. Some of the AI detectors I will use to detect for AI are, but not limited to, GPTzero, Grammarly, Quilbot, Copyleaks, zerogpt, etc. So please make sure there is absolutely no AI use.****************
