Overview
Our third Reflection Paper will be focused on how ideas of gender have shaped the baseball experience. Having reviewed the material from the 4th Inning (along with Innings 1-3), consider how baseball has both reinforced and challenged ideas of femininity/masculinity. For this post I am asking that you:
⚾️ 1. Consider the ways in which baseball has offered men and women the opportunity to challenge ideas of both femininity & masculinity. Then consider the ways in which it has reinforcedsuch ideas. [40 points]
⚾️ 2. Consider the experiences of both women and non-White ballplayers around the sport of baseball—have their experiences been more similar or different? Remember to go beyond simply saying "both faced discrimination." Think through both the challenges and opportunities available to these groups over time and use specific historical evidence to support your argument. [40 points]
Remember: Your argument must be grounded in evidence from our modules in order to score well. (If you have read ahead into the next modules, you are more than welcome to use evidence from those as well.) Effective and high-scoring writing will clearly state the argument being made in a paragraph and then follow this up with multiple specific examples of supporting evidence drawn from the readings and documentaries.
