Overview

Our fourth Reflection Paper will be focused on the idea of baseball as the "national pastime." Having reviewed the material from Innings 5-6 (as well as Innings 1-4), to what extent has baseball been a uniquely "American" sport? For this post I am asking that you:

⚾️ 1. Consider how successful American baseball promoters have been in exporting the game internationally. Provide examples of their successes and failures. [35 points]

⚾️ 2. In what ways have other nations put their own cultural stamp on the game of baseball? What is different about the way they play the game versus how Americans have played the game? You can look at baseball leagues outside of the United States or at the influence of players born outside the United States on Major League Baseball. [35 points]

⚾️ 3. Conclude by giving your thoughts on to what extent baseball is still "America's game." [10 points]

Remember: Your argument must be grounded in evidence from our modules in order to score well. (If you have read ahead into the next modules, you are more than welcome to use evidence from those.) Effective and high-scoring writing will clearly state the argument being made in a paragraph and then follow this up with multiple specific examples of supporting evidence drawn from the readings and documentaries.
