Topic: The current Texas Constitution was designed to provide greater public control over the government, effectively limiting the government's power. Thus, the people are given a direct say in the amendment process. Look at the proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution from the last 10 years that received a public vote. Choose one of these amendments to research. In your response, you should explain the amendment process in Texas and the background of the amendment you have chosen to discuss. What groups supported or opposed the amendment and what are their arguments? Explain which side you agree with and why. How much support did the proposed amendment receive in the House and Senate and what was the result of the amendment election? [Make sure to choose an amendment where there was significant debate so you can discuss both sides.] Use the textbook: Governing Texas, 7th edition, and find chapters that are related to the topic.
