The most important thing your essay should do is make an argument, a clear point you want to convey to your reader. Your argument should be about one or several (but no more than three!) primary texts on our syllabus. In formulating your argument, you may also refer to our secondary readings, lectures, and class discussions, but please confine your argument itself to our primary texts.
