Overview
Part One
1. Memory and Trauma: Choose one testimony from Unchained Memories. What struck you about the way the speaker remembers and conveys their experience? How does the passage reflect the long-lasting effects of slavery?
Part Two
2. In The Interesting Narrative, Chapters 1–2 and in Unchained Memories, we see two different approaches to telling personal histories of enslavement: one written by a man educated in the 18th century, the other spoken by survivors of slavery and performed by actors. How do these two texts complement each other in giving a fuller picture of slavery? (You can also consider how the texts complement to emphasize slavery's impact?)
