Overview
In the age of AI, all classes need to adapt to the new technology. Here's an experiment with the final paper. Please follow these guidelines carefully:
(1) Transcribe your answer to the chosen essay question for the midterm exam; type it out like a short paper, and don't change anything (your midterm answer will NOT be graded again, although I need you to turn in this text as part of your final paper). I call this Text One.
(2) Use Text One as a prompt and ask ChatGPT (or any other AI platform, such as Deepseek) to turn Text One into an essay of 1,200-1,500 words. I call this Text Two.
(3) Then you write an essay of about 1,500 words by yourself in which you compare and analyze Text One and Text Two. You can discuss, for example, the differences between Text One and Text Two. You are especially encouraged to use what you have learned in class (concepts, terms, critical perspectives, reading practices, and so on) to analyze how Text Two succeeds or fails in handling the midterm essay question. I call this Text Three.
(4) Gather all three texts (marking them clearly as Text One, Two, and Three) into one single document, in PDF or Doc format, and turn in the document as a stand-alone attachment.
You are encouraged to use your writing and thinking skills to engage Text Two in a critical, creative, and meaningful way. A mere list of similarities and differences between Text 1 and Text 2 won't get you a good grade.
