Overview
In this module, you will be watching the documentary Bacha Khan, from Al Jazeera. The link to the documentary is here: Bacha Khan: The Pashtun leader who peacefully defied an empire.
After watching the documentary, you are to write a film review (this is one of three options for you to do so). The film reviews should be 500 words in length. As with your posts, you must demonstrate meaningful engagement through parenthetical citations, here meaning that you include time-stamps—e.g. (Bacha Khan, 20:26).
How is empire presented and understood? In what way does empire interface with national aspirations—in this case, the nationalisms of post-1947 states (Pakistan, India) and of states that never were? What forces place pressure on the structure of empire? Whose dreams and aspirations are reflected in imperial policy? How about of nationalism? What sorts of legacies can we see left behind by imperialism and nationalism?
You do not have to answer every single one of these questions, and you are free to pose additional ones that are of interest to you—these questions are more like guidelines to get you started on your review.
