Overview
This is a 5–7 page History 140-B paper about the origins of the college debt crisis and student protests against tuition increases at UC Irvine. The paper must explain Charlie Eaton’s arguments from Chapters 3 and 6 about the causes of the college debt crisis, both nationally and at the University of California. It must also analyze primary sources from 2010 UCI tuition protests, including at least one Defend UCI blog post, the ‘Democratize Education’ blog post, and the 2010 rally audio, to explain how they support, challenge, or add to Eaton’s discussion of anti-capitalist student politics after the 2008 financial crisis in Chapter 7. The essay needs a strong thesis, topic sentences, analysis of evidence, and a conclusion discussing the broader implications for higher education, social movements, and US politics.
