Polis Game: Persian Invasion! - Group 4Xerxes and his massive army have invaded the Greek mainland! How does your Polis respond? Will you join the Greek alliance, stay neutral, or pay tribute to Persia?
- In a written response, describe the debates in your polis (if you are an oligarchy or democracy) about how to respond, or the edict from your tyrant (if you are a tyranny) explaining your policy. Keep in mind that the vast majority of city-states stayed neutral, so if you join the Greek alliance, you should have a realistic motivation for doing so. Use the lectures (especially the two on the Greco-Persian Wars) and the reading to keep what you write grounded in real history, citing each at least once.
- NOTE: If you are in Ionia, you must choose to support Persia or risk the destruction of your polis.
- Total: at least 300 words
For your response respond in character as a diplomat from your city to 1) A city pursuing the same policy as you and 2) a city pursuing a different policy. (Feel free to be nasty toward those who might have chosen "the wrong side").
