Overview

Polis Game: The Long War - Group 4

Due August 2nd, 2026

NOTE: Double-check my announcement from last week to make sure you know whether you are supposed to be in the Athenian Empire, the Spartan-led alliance, or neutral.

Prompt: Responding to the reading this week, what was your polis doing during some of the events in the Peloponnesian War described in the reading and lectures? Some of your options include: participating in important battles, switching sides, getting defeated or having your city sacked, or falling under enemy control.

  • Consider structuring this by events that happen in different years of the war (e.g.: "413: Word reaches us of the Athenian defeat at Syracuse. Our council votes to finally end our neutrality and ally ourselves with Sparta.")
  • Keep in mind whether your polis is part of the Athenian Empire, allied with Sparta, or neutral, your geographic location, your size, your government type, and the description of your polis that you laid out in Module 1.
    • Smaller cities geographically closer to the leader of their alliance (Athens or Sparta) will have fewer opportunities for free action without consequences.
  • Write at least 300 words, citing relevant assigned readings at least twice

Responses: Respond in character to two other posts, one from an ally and one from an enemy
