Overview
I'm working on a business law project and need a sample draft to help me learn.
Draft a contract for a kitchen remodeling project. You'll be writing this contract from the point of view of either the homeowner, the general contractor for the remodel, or a subcontractor for the remodel. Obviously, each of these three roles is going to care about different aspects.
Let me reassure you now - I DO NOT expect you to be formal in this contract, so please don't bother going online to find sample contracts loaded with "legalese" like "heretofore," "party of the first part," "hereinafter," or similar useless language. Be plain, clear, and specific and you'll be fine. The goal here is to think about what terms would be necessary for your given person. You see, there's an important aspect of contract law that boils down to "he who writes the contract dictates the terms," so there is great power in being the drafter of the contract. However, it is also true that if the drafter of the contract is sloppy or vague in his terms, a court will interpret the contract in the most favorable light for the person who DIDN'T write the sloppy, vague language.
