ANGIE MARTINI

Technology in each business is starting to automate a lot of processes. This article talks about how businesses must regulate the ethics of these technologies (Martin et al., 2019, pp. 308-309). I do not know about you, but this is very scary for me. These are the same companies that had to be told that predatory lending is not ok. It is the same companies that must have a law to protect the privacy of their customers. The same companies must be told not to discriminate based on sex, gender, and religion. These all had to become laws before companies would do something that could affect their bottom line negatively for the sake of their customers or employees.

I would recommend having similar laws that govern technology. This way, there is someone that is a third-party enforcing the rules. These would be rules set by the government. The only issue with this is getting the lawmakers to agree on right and wrong. This is almost as difficult as getting companies to sacrifice their bottom line in order to self-regulate. I am not saying that all companies need these rules, but to ensure that everyone follows the same rules, it makes sense.
