Discussion Post

Unit 2 Discussion / Peer Collaboration

Introduction

In each unit, you will be assigned discussion points concerning unit topics, examine the presented topics, and complete the discussion tasks. After submitting the initial posting, you will provide meaningful responses/constructive criticism of at least two peers’ initial postings, including the perceived strengths and specific opportunities for improvement.

While there is no minimum or maximum wording expectation for your initial and peer responses, they are expected to be substantive in nature and reflect graduate-level critical thinking, as well as an ability to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate given scenarios and tasks.

Subject to be covered from textbook: Jennings, M. M. (2021). Business: Its Legal, Ethical, and Global Environment (12th ed.). Cengage Learning US. https://mbsdirect.vitalsource.com/books/9798214338...

5-5h. Equal Protection Rights for Business

The Fourteenth Amendment grants citizens the right to the equal protection of the law. Lawmakers, however, are often required to make certain distinctions in legislating and regulating that result in classes of individuals being treated differently.

Such different or disparate treatment is justified only if some rational basis for it is determined. In other words, a rational connection is necessary between the classifications and the achievement of some governmental objective. Most classifications survive the rational basis test. An example of a classification that would not survive is one requiring the manufacturers of soft drinks to use only unbreakable bottles for their product but allowing juice manufacturers to use glass bottles; this classification is irrational. If a public safety concern is raised about glass bottles, it must apply equally to all beverage manufacturers.

Part A: Initial Post

  1. Locate a current article (within the last 2 years) from a professional journal (such as Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal, etc.) that deals with a topic from this unit's chapters.
  2. Brief the article (specify Issue, Rule, Analysis, and Conclusion) and attach it to the post. Very briefly summarize the facts in a sentence or two (do not copy and paste the entire article into the discussion). The Analysis should incorporate the applicable information from our textbook with citations. The conclusion is YOUR conclusion on the outcome of pending outcome of the case.
