Research Paper (25%)
There is one research paper assigned for this class. The paper will be 4-5 pages, not including the cover and reference sheets, and will be in proper academic (APA) format. The paper should include an overview of the topic and its applicability to the technology in operations management topics we are covering in class. This is not an opinion or position paper. Assume the reader of the brief has no knowledge of the subject.
The paper must have at least 10 academic and /or professional references and related in-text citations. As this is a topical paper, please be sure the references are less than 2 years old. Please access the Lasell University Library’s online databases for an excellent selection of articles. Note that you cannot successfully complete this assignment using web-based references only.
- The Impact of Automation on the Operations Function. Research the practical and socio-economic impact of automation on the operations function. Provide a brief overview of automation trends (ex. robotics, AI, additive manufacturing, and others). Discuss the impact of this technology on the labor force, management-employee interactions, and customer and supplier relationships. Provide examples of how exemplary companies are managing this important change in the workplace and maybe one that are not doing such a great job.
