Overview

(MAKE SURE TO ADD A TITLE/QUESTION FOR THIS POST)

This week we shift our focus to ethical decision making. Ethics, as a decision-making process (ethics is always about a choice), is a subtype of decision making (just as financial decisions are a subtype of decision making) and is just as prone to predictable errors as any other type of decision making. Most of Kahneman’s work is involved with how individuals make decisions, and we see that work reflected in Messick & Bazerman’s section on “How We See Ourselves.” But Messick & Bazerman point out that how we see the world and how we see others also influences the way in which we make ethical decisions. Ariely discusses when and why we are likely to be dishonest.

Find an example of ethical or unethical workplace behavior, either individual or organizational, that you have read about or that you have seen in your organization and ask your colleagues an interesting question about that situation. One interesting example is found in the James DamoreLinks to an external site. memo wherein he charges that Google is guilty of anti-male discrimination.

In what ways is your example similar or dissimilar to the situations described in this week’s readings?

Do not forget to provide the URL for your example
