Overview
Format:
• Follow all APA guidelines. This paper must have a title page, page numbers, in-text citations, and references. Use Times New Roman, 12-point font, and be sure to double-space.
• A minimum of 6 pages is required: 1 total page, 4 pages of content, and 1 reference page. This is a formal paper, and correct grammar is expected.
• References: any thoughts that are not your own must be cited. Failure to do so will be deemed plagiarism. Additionally, the use of AI is not permitted.
Paper Topic(s):
• Write a research paper on one of the following topics.
o Option 1: Wildlife poses a significant threat to aviation safety. There are many mitigation methods to help reduce these threats. For this paper, choose an airportand be sure to note the location/ecosystem, and discuss the types of wildlife and their associated hazards that could be present at this airport.
▪ Additionally, write a separate paragraph on whether you believe that conservation is obtainable while also prioritizing aviation safety.
o Option 2: Safety Management Systems, as defined by the FAA, are organized around four building blocks, or pillars. These include policy, safety risk management, safety assurance, and safety promotion. Discuss in detail the activities and procedures that are required in each of these four areas for an organization to fully implement a SMS.
▪ Provide the type of organization this will occur at. Since this is an airport operations course, you should focus on an airport, but you may choose the size/location of the airport.
▪ Approximate time to implement a SMS within this organization.
Research PPT Guidelines:
Purpose: This PPT assignment is derived from your research paper. This assignment allows you to create a visual componentof your paper, as you will be taking the option topic you wrote about and applying it to your PPT.

o Provide airport location/ecosystem type, wildlife hazards present, mitigation methods to use for those specific species, and your conservation/aviation safety opinion. Use pictures to show species and mitigation methods!
• If you chose option 2:
o Provide organization type and size, SMS pillars, how you will implement these, and the timeline for full implementation.
