The Week 8 assignment is a Position paper. The assignment is open so please check it out before submitting your topic. Remember, this is an eight-week course, so ensure that the topic is focused on one area that gives you the time needed to complete the assignment, but also has enough information to ensure you can write 8 pages of relevant information.
Steps for Writing your Topic Proposal
Your Topic Proposal will be written in the form of an essay using APA 7th Edition Guidelines. Be sure to read the Writing Assignment Expectations document I have provided as it shows the steps and formatting in an essay.
The following is the required structure for your Topic Proposal.
Title Page: APA 7th Edition formatted title page.
Introduction: Your first paragraph is the introduction. The introduction must accomplish the following:
- Introduce your topic
- Provide a summary of the problem your paper will address
- Discuss the main ideas or points you would like to present in your Week 8 paper
Relevance: This section of your topic proposal is where you explain why your research is necessary, the literature available on the topic, and how it relates either to the fire service as a whole or to your own fire service organization and community.
Arguments: This section of your topic proposal is where you will discuss the main arguments and counter arguments on the topic, and where you will try to convince the reader to support your position. A compelling position paper will have arguments for and against the topic. A strong position paper takes a stance on a topic where people can disagree. Without arguments, the position paper would be boring.
Conclusion: The conclusion will briefly summarize your topic proposal and reinforce your research’s stated purpose.
References: This is the last page of your proposal. It serves as a listing of all references that you mentioned in your paper. Please use APA 7th Edition style when completing this list.

1. Two (2) Full APA Formatted Pages (This does not count the title page or the reference page)
2. APA 7th Edition (Guides located at the bottom of this page)
3. Word Document (Use Microsoft Word only) (Do not submit a PDF or a Pages document) Paper Expectations:
The Writing Assignment Expectations document I provided at the bottom of this page goes into detail on the following information. 1. Page Number – The page number must appear in the upper right corner of the header on each page of the paper.
2. Title Page – APA 7th Edition 3. Main Parts of the Paper – The main parts or sections of the paper include the Introduction, Body and Conclusion
4. Headings – Headings are required in the paper so that the reader can distinguish between your key points throughout the body of the paper.
5. Citing Sources – Cite your quoted and paraphrased material using APA 7th Edition 6. Reference Page – Reference all material using APA 7th Edition and be sure to pay attention to the indentions for each source.
Page Setup: 1. Times New Roman font throughout the paper 2. 12 Point font size throughout the paper 3. Double Spaced 4. 1 inch Page Margins: Top, Bottom, Left and Right (Not 1.25 inches)
