Each student will complete one narrated presentation of a current event article during the term. The goal is to connect a real-world marketing event to the concepts and frameworks from the assigned chapter(s) for the week, and to use those concepts to interpret what is happening in practice.
Key requirement: Your narrated presentation must clearly explain how the article connects to specific concepts from the week’s reading, using correct chapter terminology and demonstrating your own understanding.
1) Article Selection
- Choose a current article (published within the past 3 months) that relates directly to the topic(s) covered in your assigned week. (My assign week is week 8)
- Your article must come from a reputable business or marketing source (e.g., The Wall Street Journal, American Marketing Association, Forbes, Bloomberg Businessweek, Adweek).
- Your article should clearly illustrate at least one or more major concepts from the assigned chapter(s) for that week.
2) Scheduling & Due Date
- Presentation weeks will be assigned during the first three weeks of the term.
- Your presentation is due in the forum by Sunday morning of your assigned week.
- If you know in advance you cannot present during your assigned week, email the instructor as early as possible to request a reassignment.
3) Recording & Posting Your Presentation
- You will record and post your narrated presentation slideshow (such as a narrated PowerPoint) using the Student – Echo360 Video Help resource found in eLearning.
- Follow the step-by-step instructions in that guide to record your narrated presentation and embed or link it in the discussion forum.
- Be sure your recording is accessible to your classmates before the Sunday deadline.
4) What to Include in Your Presentation
Your narrated presentation should address all of the following:
- Article Overview
Briefly summarize the main points and key facts of the article. - Why This Article Fits This Week
Explain why you chose this article for this specific week. Reference at least one concept or framework from the chapter that makes this article a good match for the week’s topic. - Connection to This Week’s Chapter
Explain how specific marketing concepts, models, or strategies from the assigned reading help you interpret what is happening in the article. Identify/define concepts that best explains or effects the situation and briefly explain why. - Discussion Questions
Create 2–3 open-ended questions that furthers the discussion. For example ask classmates to take a position, make a recommendation, or evaluate a tradeoff using the chapter concepts and your article. You may include your questions in the presentation video, but all include them typed into the discussion box so that your fellow students can refer to them.
5) Discussion Leadership (Your Week)
- During your assigned week, you are responsible for facilitating the discussion about your presentation.
- Plan to check the forum at least every other day to respond to classmates’ questions and comments.
- All students are expected to participate in the discussion.
