Overview
Hello everyone, and welcome to this assessment guidance video for the Unit Evidence-Based Practise 5C002. In this video, I'll walk you through the assessment and the requirements of it. The case study is basically about Technivara, which is a long-established components manufacturer for sectors such as computing. Now, what you need to do is you need to make sure you have a good read of this case study, and you understand the scenario within it because you need to be relating your answers back to it. Each of your answers for task one in particular and also the last question within task two, you need to be relating it back to this case study. You must complete two tasks. The first one requires you to answer seven questions, referring back to the case study, and your answer should respond accurately to the questions and should be informed by wider reading from key academic texts, articles, and relevant publications. For the second task, you must complete a data analysis and make recommendations based on your findings. Now, what we mean by those key academic texts, articles, and relevant publications, they're good quality sources. So we need to make sure you're referring to good quality sources. Have a look at the guide that we've put in the get started area to help you to understand what we mean by good quality sources. And we've given you some examples of what they might look like within each of these categories, and how you go about finding them. So for task one, you've got 2,900 words, plus or minus 10 %. For task two, you've got 1,000 words, plus or minus 10 %. So in total, you've got 3,900 words, plus or minus 10 %. Please don't go any higher than the upper limit, because if you do, then unfortunately, you will refer. Please use the assessment question numbers as your headings and ensure you have a front cover, and make use of the front cover generator tool in assessment week to help you do that, because it does it for All you need to put in is your word count.
Okay, so questions. Before we have a look at questions, just going to go over the market descriptions because they have changed ever so slightly in the new assessment brief. So to score a low pass, you must ensure you meet the minimum assessment requirements outlined under a low pass. You must demonstrate the minimum level of knowledge, understanding, or skill required to meet the AC. Now, we'll be going through that in this session. You need to include an appropriate example where this is required to support the answer. Now, you need examples in all your written answers to support your answers. They need to be relevant to the question that you've been asked. Include evidence of some reading and research to inform the answer. You need to evidence this within your reference list. You also need to have a corresponding in-text citation, so you need to include a reference for each assessment criteria, and that's evidence by the in-text citation. Refer to the case study. You need to do that throughout. Respond to the question or tasks, although it could be clearer and/or better expressed, so you need to make sure you specifically answer the question and have an appropriate format structure which meets the requirements set out in the assessment brief. So basically, you need to make sure it's presented nicely. Okay? Now, we encourage you to aim for the high pass, but as an absolute minimum, you must meet this requirement outlined within a low pass.
So now we'll have a look at the content that you need to cover for each of the questions. So question one asks you to evaluate the concept of evidence-based practise and provide two examples of where Technivara could use it to ensure sound decision-making in people practise. So the first thing to do is to define the concept of evidence-based practise and then to consider its benefits and its challenges. Then once you've done that, go on and provide two examples of where, and I'd also think about how Technivara could use evidence-based practise to ensure sound decision-making in people practise. So for example, it could be in regards to out-of-date L&D practises. So how might we use evidence-based practise within out-of-date L&D practises? Likewise, with high absence levels and staff skill shortages, we're thinking about how we might use it. So think about what it involves and how we might apply it. Then conclude by making a reason judgement of the use of the effectiveness of evidence-based practise in Technivara to help make sound decisions.
So you're drawing your answer together in an overall conclusion where you're making a judgement on the concept of evidence-based practise, because that's how you should set out an evaluation. You should always come to a judgement.
Okay, so question two asks you to evaluate one appropriate analysis tool and one appropriate analysis method that Technivara might apply to recognise and diagnose issues, challenges, and opportunities. Now for this, what you need What you need to do is between the two, you need to make sure you cover all three: issues, challenges, and opportunities. So make sure you do that within the answer through the two questions that you're answering, two elements of the question that you're answering. So the first one is evaluate one analysis. Also, it could be fishbone analysis, balance scorecard, pestle swot, porters, five forces, in terms of its benefits and the challenges when used to diagnose any or all of the following: issues, which are things such as legislation, for example, challenges, so it might be new competitors, or opportunities, growth opportunities, for example, lower tariffs, it might be an improvement in economy, new technology. Once you've done that, go on and do the same for a method. They are different, so make sure you're clear, and there's a distinction between the two analysis tools and method. A method is such as interview, a survey, focus group, observations, etc.
Again, think of the benefits challenges when used to diagnose any or all of the three: issues, challenges, and opportunities or opportunities. Again, we're evaluating, so we should conclude by making a reason judgement of the effectiveness of how these tools and methods might be applied in Technivara. Okay, so for example, some of them will be best suited to helping us to look at opportunities. So a method might be better helping us to think about issues that we might have within an organisational the challenges that we might need to overcome. Okay, so think what might be beneficial externally, think about what might be beneficial internally, for example. That's the thing you should consider in your evaluation of them.
Task 1, question three, explain the main principles of critical thinking, including how these might apply to your own and others' ideas to assist objective and rational debate at Technivara. We've broken it down further for you. Now, what we'd recommend you do is define the term critical thinking and explain its principles, eg objective rational thinking, checking source, validity, considering unconscious bias, not jumping to conclusions, etc. So there are others. That's just a few of them to get you thinking. Then you need to explain such principles that should be applied to your own ideas. So think about your own ideas and how you might use critical thinking in order to assess them, basically, to make sure that they're sound, to assist objective and rational debate at Technivara, which you would then go on and use within objective rational debate. So it could be such as presenting and checking facts and data, remaining objective in your approach and presentation, and providing evidence, not emotion. Then you go on and explain the principles that should be applied to the ideas of others to assist objective and rational debate at Technivara, eg, being aware of an author's credibility, research methods and source, checking their claims, and presenting fact, not opinion. So they are slightly different, and the principles that you would apply would be different. You need an example for each as well. You need a clear example, one related to your own ideas and one related to the ideas of others. Okay.
So question four, ask you to explain two decision-making processes that Technivara could apply to ensure that effective outcomes are achieved. So simply two, and two are things such as, eg, best fit, future pacing, problem outcome frame, action learning approaches, de Bono, six thinking hats. So just pick two and then explain them in terms of how they can be used to ensure effective outcomes are achieved at Technivara. And it's the outcomes of decisions, basically.
Okay. Question five assess two different ethical perspectives, including how these could be used at Technivara to inform and influence decision making. So it's a case of, again, looking at two. So it could be utilitarianism, deontology, Kantianism, Communitarianism, Altruism etc. Pick two, do some research on them, get a good feel for them, understanding of them, and then assess them. So you need to look at their benefits and challenges in terms of how they could potentially impact decision making. Okay, and what impact that might have on Technivara. If we were to take a utilitarianism approach, what might the benefits of that be? What might some of the challenges of that be? And how might that impact, for example, things such as management and leadership styles and, consequently, on organisational culture? Okay, so do that for both and then conclude by making a reason judgement of how effective the use of these perspectives are to inform and influence decision-making.
Question six, ask you to appraise two different ways that Technivara could measure financial and non-financial performance, providing one example of each. Here we're offering an appraisal which is similar to an assessment, so we'll follow a similar approach. So financial things such as revenue, gross and net profit, cash flow, return on investment, etc. And then non-financial things such as service level agreement, stakeholder benefits, and feedback, customer satisfaction, legal compliance, etc. And again, as I mentioned, you need to consider the benefits and challenges of each and conclude by making a reason judgement of the use of such measures at Technivara.
Question seven, asks you to explain how people practises could add value at Technivara and identify two methods that might be used to measure the impact of these people practises. So it's a case of choosing two and think about what people practises do within an organisation. It could be anything, really, recruitment, development, and how that adds value to Technivara. Then go on and consider how we might measure the impact of those two people practises. You would offer a method for each of those ways that people practise add value. Okay, there's some examples it could be cost-benefit analysis, it could be evaluation techniques, validation techniques, it could be return on investment, etc - that might be used to measure the impact of these people practises at Technivara.
Okay, so that's task one. Let's have a look at task two now, which is the quantitative and qualitative analysis review. You've been provided with two tables of data which we've put in the resources section and assessment week for you. Present your answers within the main body of this part of the document, so under task two, and diagram charts are not included in the word count. If you use a data table, which we're recommending you do, the numbers within your data table won't count.
Task 2, (question 8), Table 1 shows Technivara as turnover and recruitment data for 2024. Sue has asked you to convert the data into percentages form for each of the departments to show. One, leaves as a percentage of the total number of employees. Two, vacancies as percentages of the total number of employees. And three, positions filled as a percentage of the total number of employees. Okay, so you're basically using that data to do the calculations and it's percentages. So have a look at how you work out percentages and apply that to this data that you've been presented with.
Once you've done that, use the data in table one to complete the three the tasks outlined above, which you've done, and then present your answers to part two in the main body of your document using a table format. Okay, so this table will not count towards the word limit, as I've mentioned, as only numerical data is required, and there's no written interpretation at this point needed. Calculations must be on the right lines. Minor inaccuracies are acceptable so long as the learner has used or you have used the correct method, eg percentages. Okay, if it's way out, then that's not minor. So you'd like it to refer if it's way out. If it's a minor figure here and there, then it should be okay. Okay? We'd recommend you aim to get them as accurate as possible, but that is just something to bear in mind.
Task 2, (question nine) when you have completed table 1, present your findings using a minimum of three different types of diagrammatic forms. Okay, so it's a case of choosing three, three which are suitable. So think of the data you want to present and then choose a chart or graph which will help you to present it. So for example, if you think about percentages, they're only really. If you're thinking about a pie chart, you would use them in order to present percentages diagrammatically. Pie charts are limited to percentages, whereas the others are a bit more flexible. Offer some written explanation of what they show here as well, and make sure that your choice of diagram matches the correct data type as I mentioned.
So question 10 asks you to basically look at the data from table 2, which contains evaluation feedback from 42 employees who attended a recent learning and development activity. And Sue would like you to review the feedback and identify patterns, themes, or trends that might be occurring, and make recommendations based on your findings. So have a look at that data, and it's saying patterns, themes, or trends. So it could be any or all of them. Just make it clear. Use this terminology within your answer to make it clear that you've addressed this part of the question. So talk about patterns, themes, or trends, specifically. Make at least two justified recommendations. Based on that analysis and your findings, you need to offer two recommendations that need to be justified. So they have to be considered, and within that consideration, consider the benefits, outline the benefits, risks, and the costs associated with them. Do that for each of the two. Here, you also need to be bringing in evidence of your wider reading. So for example, it might be some journal articles where similar recommendations have worked or academic texts or theory or something like that which supports it. That is required in question 10. It's not required in the previous two, evidence of your wider reading, but it is required in question 10.
Okay, so just to recap, you've got 2,900 words plus or minus 10% for task one, 1,000 words plus or minus 10% for task two, 3,900 plus or minus 10%words in total. There's some guidance there with regards to how to name your file. Please put both tasks in the same document, the word document.
Next steps, read the brief thoroughly. That's important because it's got more information in there about the case organisation. Work through the learning resources on the Avado platform to gain relevant knowledge and understanding. Plan your assessment in line with the learning. So as you're working through it, you can complete the relevant areas of the assessment. Don't leave your assessment to the last minute. Ensure you are familiar with the grading descriptors and have read through the grading grid. That's important. We've had a look at the grading descriptors in today's session as well, and that helps you determine what you need to do for an absolute minimum, but it also helps you determine what you need to do if you want to score the high passes. Ensure you have included in-text citations and a reference list, and you rate your answers to the case organisation. That is essential now in these core units on the new briefs. Thanks very much for listening, everybody. Best of luck with your assessments. Thank you.
