Overview
Action Research Assignment -
Evaluate your Current Articles and Look for More
Now that you know more about reading, comprehending and selecting research articles for your topic, review your current inventory of articles you found in Week 1 and analyze their fit for your topic while noting any professor feedback. Use of generative AI (GAI) is prohibited for any part of this assignment.
There are two parts to the week 2 assignment. Each part should be submitted in one document.:
- Incorporate feedback from the week 1 assignment and delete unacceptable articles and replace them. Submit a revised APA formatted reference page.
- The following assignment is the second part.
For 2 articles for each variable (for a total of 4 articles) you found in week 1, please complete the following for four articles total:
- Provide a complete APA formatted reference of an article.
- Provide a list of the research hypotheses. (If there are no hypotheses, this is not a quantitative article and needs to be replaced with an appropriate article.)
- Provide a short description of the methodology.
- What is the population/sample?
- Describe how each of the hypothesized variables are measured.
- Cite the source of each measure for all hypothesized variables in this study.
- Describe the Likert scale for each hypothesized variable in this study. (If there is no Likert scale, this article is not a quantitative article and should be replaced.)
- What are the results of this study? What hypotheses were supported and which ones were not supported?
- Does each article appear to be relevant to your chosen topic? Why or why not? If it is not, please omit this article and replace it for your paper.
An example of this assignment would be:
Brock Baskin, M., McKee, V., & Buckley, M. R. (2017). Time banditry and impression
management behavior: Prediction and profiling of time bandit types. Journal of Leadership & Organizational Studies,
24(1), 39– 54. https://doi.org/10.1177/1548051816661479
Research Hypotheses
Hypothesis 1: Conscientiousness will be negatively associated with time banditry.
Hypothesis 2: Extraversion will be positively related to time banditry.
Hypothesis 3: Neuroticism will be positively related to time banditry.
Methodology
Population and Sample. Four hundred and forty-six students who were currently employed at least part time were solicited from undergraduate and graduate business courses to participate in the survey for course credit. Participants ranged in age from 16-51 years old, with a mean of 20.54 years. The sample contained slightly more females (51.4%) than males (48.6%). The demographics showed 79% were Caucasian, 15 participants were Hispanic, 21 participants were Asian, 21 participants were African American.
Measures. This study measured both time banditry and personality characteristics, which were the hypothesized variables in this study. Time banditry was measured using the Time Banditry Questionnaire (TBQ). This 31-item measure has shown high internal consistency (a=.90) (Brock et al., 2013). The TBQ was measured on a 5-point Likert scale ranging from Strongly disagree to Strongly Agree. The personality variables used in this study (conscientiousness, extraversion, and neuroticism) were measured using the 65-item Big Five personality factor questionnaire (Saucier, 1994). This measure had acceptable reliability results for conscientiousness (a=.81), extraversion (a=.85), and neuroticism (a=.72). The Big Five personality questionnaire was measured on a 7-point Likert scale ranging from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree.
Results
Two of the three research hypothesis were supported, hypotheses 1 and 3. Both personality traits conscientiousness and neuroticism were found to correlate with time banditry. However, hypothesis 2 was not supported, since extraversion was not shown to correlate with time banditry.
Is This Article Relevant to My Study?
No, this article is not relevant to my study because I am not examining personality traits in my study, but rather organizational traits that might lead to time banditry. I will omit this article and find a replacement that fits my topic better.
Or
Yes, this article is relevant to my study because I am examining the personal traits of an employee that will likely participate in time banditry.
Assignment Task:
- Download your Week 1 assignment submission annotated with professor feedback. Incorporate those revisions in this assignment.
- Please take a look at the articles chosen during Week 1. Do they still fit your topic? Decide whether to keep or replace them with other research articles.
- Update your reference list from Week 1 based on professor feedback and then add the new references you found this week.
- Remember to download your new articles to your computer or cloud storage, you will need them later for your literature review.
- Follow APA 7th edition formatting. How to format a journal article in APA. Most likely, the professor made notes on your Week 1 assignment regarding APA formatting, so incorporate any new knowledge into this week's assignment.
- Attach your document when submitting your assignment. Action Research Assignment -Evaluate your Current Articles and Look for More
