Overview
Case Study Analysis: Value Vending supplies various types of vending machines to businesses. They are available for direct purchase or a monthly rental fee. One of Value Vending’s clients is Snack Attack. They pay a monthly fee of $150 for a large vending machine with multiple options for customers to purchase soda and snacks. Value Vending also does business with Pony Express who direct purchases newspaper vending machines and positions them around subway stations downtown.
The types of vending machines used by these two clients are quite different. For Pony Express newspaper vending, an individual inserts the exact amount of coins, the door opens, and they can take a newspaper. All the newspaper options are visible and available.
In contrast, with Snack Attack vending machines that sell soda and snacks, an individual also inserts the correct amount of coins, but the door remains locked.
Using the concepts of utility, marginal utility, total utility, and diminishing marginal utility, examine the reasoning behind the differences between these two types of vending machines.
