The purpose of this assignment is to encourage you to reflect on your emerging leadership identity by examining your personal values, experiences, and ethical beliefs. Through self-reflection, you will develop greater self-awareness and establish a foundation for intentional leadership growth throughout the course.
Prompt: Write a 2–3 page reflective essay that explores your current leadership identity and the values that influence your approach to leadership. Begin by describing how you currently view yourself as a leader and discuss any formal or informal leadership experiences that have shaped your perspective. Reflect on whether you believe leadership is a natural ability, a learned skill, or a combination of both.
Next, examine the personal values that guide your decisions and actions. Explain how these values were developed and discuss the role ethics plays in effective leadership. If applicable, describe a situation in which your values or ethics were challenged and explain how you responded.
Finally, evaluate your current leadership strengths and identify areas you would like to continue developing. Conclude by discussing the leadership qualities you hope to strengthen throughout this course and explain how understanding your leadership identity and personal values will prepare you for future leadership opportunities. Support your reflection with concepts from this week's learning materials. (LO1, LO4)
